Restoring heirloom jewelry is one of our most rewarding commissions! As fine jewelry is passed from generation to generation many times it acquires a sort of mystical pedigree that follows it through time. We are thrilled to be able to reinstate former beauty and function to jewelry otherwise destined for the recycle bin; thereby enabling future generations to experience the allure of their family heirlooms. Here is a beautiful story and example we are pleased to have been given the opportunity to share.
Linda Sangree Allen (1847-1929) was an author from Huntingdon, PA who wrote under the name of Gypsy Wilde. Mrs. Allen employed my great-grandmother, Mae, and they became dear friends. Mae eventually married and moved to Pitcairn where my grandmother was born and named Linda Sangree in honor of Mrs. Allen. Later, Mrs. Allen became ill and sent for Great Grandma Mae who stayed with her until her death. This opal and diamond ring was a gift from Mrs. Allen to Mae and was handed down to my grandmother, Linda and then to my mother Jo-Anne. When I was born, my parents gave me the name Linda in honor of my grandmother and Mrs. Allen.
As a child, I loved to hear the story of the ring and my mom would allow me to try it on briefly. Sadly, through the years, the ring had lost some of its luster as well as its diamonds. Many times, my mother took it to various jewelers to see if it could be repaired but no one wanted to take on the risk of removing the opal for fear it would crack. Being a Beeghly’s customer, my mother thought she would try one more time to have the ring repaired. Unbeknownst to me, my mother secretly contacted Fran and so began the process of rebuilding and refurbishing this precious heirloom. On Christmas Day 2016, to my great surprise, I opened a Beeghly jewelry box containing the refurbished ring. Fran and the Beeghly team were exemplary in their work to restore this ring to its original beauty.
