No! Genuine gold and silver jewelry can be worn through airport security without removal. Keep this in mind when choosing your metal.
Can I wear permanent jewelry during medical procedures, such as MRIs?
Always follow your doctor’s instructions.
- Ferrous metals (such as stainless steel) must be removed before entering an MRI room.
- You can use a magnet at home to test your jewelry — if it’s magnetic, it must come off.
- Gold and sterling silver are non-ferrous, but depending on the size of your jewelry and the location of the scan, your doctor may still request removal.
If your piece needs to be removed for a procedure, you are welcome to bring it back for a $10 re-weld.
